Merkinch Primary School
Merkinch Primary School, Carse Road, Inverness IV3 8QB
Merkinch Primary School is the first school project in Scotland constructed entirely from Cross Laminated Timber (CLT).
The building is approximately 4,600sqm, spread across two floors with walls, intermediate floors, and roofs all being constructed in CLT with feature glulam completing a stunning structure. A large percentage of the CLT has been left exposed offering a natural and warm internal environment. This project also incorporates CLT stair enclosures and lift shaft as a deviation from normal masonry construction, so offers a ground-breaking and sustainable solution, resulting in a healthy and pleasing internal environment.
